What is SEO and SEM ?

SEO and SEM are interrelated terms regarding Internet marketing and online business. However, these two are not similar to each other in fact there is a great difference between these two terms. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization where a Webmaster tries to make its website more search engine friendly to bring it at the top against most searched keywords in a specific niche.

Definitions for SEO and SEM

SEO and SEM are interrelated terms regarding Internet marketing and online business. However, these two are not similar to each other in fact there is a great difference between these two terms. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization where a Webmaster tries to make its website more search engine friendly to bring it at the top against most searched keywords in a specific niche. SEM stands for Search Engine Marketing that is a technique of marketing through search engine. In SEM, Webmasters need to pay a certain amount to a search engine to place and advertisement on the first page of search results against a specific keyword. 

 SEO is termed as organic marketing as Webmasters do not pay anything to be at the search engine results of a popular search engine. SEO is done with the help of organic and natural techniques like link building, content optimization, content tweaking, keyword research and social media marketing. There are two types of SEO techniques:

·        The on-page SEO that includes content optimization and building search engine friendly website structure by transforming the head, title and Meta tags of a website along with optimizing it page structure.

·         The other type of SEO is off-page SEO that include popular SEO techniques like link building via forum posting, article writing, link exchange, directory submission, press release submission and blog postings.

SEM is termed as a paid advertisement, through which websites are promoted by purchasing target as placement at a particular page of search engine. The major objective of SEM is to generate revenue by converting leads into sales. Ad placements in SEM include contextual ad placement or banner ad placement at SERPs. The most comprehensive example of SEM program is Google Adwords program.

 So, make use of all the benefits of SEM and reach the top of most search engines.

Actually search engine optimization can be broadly called a subset of search engine marketing. Whenever you define your search engine marketing strategy search engine optimization is an integral part of it.
